🦉 The Meta and Spotify Situationship 👀

The market hinges on Nvidia, Meta to integrate Spotify, iPhone 16 launch set

Welcome to the Collective. According to the self-proclaimed “most iconic stock broker” on Wall Street (and many other reputable individuals), Nvidia’s earnings report today is one of the most anticipated in a decade. We’re here to tell you what this means not just for markets, but for founders in the AI space.

Yesterday, we published the second episode of our podcast featuring Deeptune Co-Founder and CEO Tim Lupo. With Gary Vaynerchuk and Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian’s 776 fund as investors in the company’s $3.1 million seed round, Deeptune is ready to revolutionize the globalization of content through multilingual AI dubbing that maintains the speaker’s natural tone of voice.

The Big Day is Here

EMJ Capital’s Eric Jackson called Nvidia “the most important stock in the world right now” on CNBC last week. Why? The company’s market cap has multiplied by a factor of nine since the end of 2022. And as of June, the company accounted for a third of gains in the S&P 500 this year.

You read that right: one company accounted for a third of the gains in the index index tracking the performance of 500 of the largest public companies in the US.

So, on the heels of Nvidia’s earnings report to be released later today, it’s obvious that this is a huge day for public markets.

But what does Nvidia’s rise or fall mean for startups in the AI space?

  1. Impact on Funding Flows: A strong earnings report may lead to increased venture capital interest in AI startups, while a disappointing report could result in tightened purse strings.

  2. Hardware Dependency at Risk: Many AI startups rely on Nvidia’s GPUs for their machine-learning models. If Nvidia’s growth continues, the company could choose to continue to invest in its hardware, providing engineers with more advanced and cost-effective options. However, if Nvidia stumbles, a lack of hardware investment may ensue.

  3. Market Valuation Influence: Nvidia's valuation sets the benchmark for AI startups. A sharp rise could inflate valuations across the sector, making it harder for smaller players to meet investor expectations.

  4. Exit Strategies: Nvidia’s market position could influence exit opportunities for AI startups. With positive results, public companies may be more willing to acquire AI startups so that they can also take part in the AI investment boom. The market for IPOs for private tech companies may also boom as investors seek to whet their appetites for participation in the AI space.

Spotify and Meta’s Situationship Spotted

As reported in a TechCrunch exclusive yesterday, Meta and Spotify are exploring music integrations for Instagram. The situationship between these two consumer tech titans was first spotted by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi.

Meta and Spotify don’t want to go public with their relationship yet, but we’ll decipher what this means for social media:

  1. Meta sees video as here to stay. With TikTok seeking to take part in the sharing of still photos, adding broader music integrations screams to be a doubling-down on video from Meta.

  2. Spotify may seek to become a more natively social app. Although Alessandro caught Instagram in the act, Spotify may also be cooking up social plug-ins on their back end. After all, the company has added more video content to its hero section that could easily have a like or comment section added to it, and has expanded collaboration features like Blend.

  3. Meta wants Notes to be a thing. TechCrunch reports that the short status update bubbles known as “Notes” on Instagram may be automated to share your active listening from Spotify. Users may be more likely to take Notes for a spin by trying out this new feature.

Time will tell as we await Meta and Spotify to hard launch on IG.

It’s Glowtime

With the tagline “It’s Glowtime.” and the sharing of the glowing Apple logo above, Apple has announced that its next event is set to be on September 9th. The company is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 16 at the event.

The rumored changes to the iPhone 16 are set to have a major impact on content creators, so let’s get you ahead of the game before the official announcement:

  1. The look of the phones will change. With a rumored return to the vertically-aligned two-camera structure, the back of the iPhone 16 is set to be unique among modern iPhones. New status symbol to show off?

  2. Your intelligence is glowing. "It's Glowtime” likely references a new ‘glow’ animation set to appear when using Siri on Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhones. Long gone will be the days of Curb Your Enthusiasm skits showcasing frustration with Siri, as the Apple Intelligence kit for iPhone 16 is set to include text summarization, writing assistance, and generative image creation.

  3. The Olympic spirit continues. We all may not have been able to achieve a medal in Paris, but a rumored bronze colorway called “Desert Titanium” may be on the way.

As expected, Apple is set to use its design, engineering, and hardware prowess to drive forward the next generation of tech. These changes seem much more significant than the usual annual iPhone upgrade, so we’re excited to see how these changes inspire innovation in both mobile apps and other hardware competitors.
